VACA MUERTA: RECORD NUMBER OF WELL CONNECTIONS DURING FEBRUARY

By: Petrochemical Magazine | 2024-04-11

Vaca Muerta has been growing in several aspects of its development, from investments and fracking to the number of connected wells. In February, during its 29 days of operation this year, the shale formation broke that last record with wells beginning production, primarily of oil.

The industry survey conducted by Economía & Energía, the consulting firm of Nicolás Arceo, confirmed that in the second month of the year, 25 wells targeting unconventional oil and another 17 targeting unconventional gas were connected.

This is in addition to the growth in production, which jumped year-on-year by 20.4% in shale oil and 17.8% in shale gas.

The company that connected the most wells was YPF, with eleven in total. Of these, three were gas wells in the Aguada de la Arena block; then there were six oil wells in La Amarga Chica. And in that same period, two wells were added in Mendoza, where Vaca Muerta is also being explored: one for Paso de las Bardas Norte and another for CN VII A.
