PEMEX INCREASES GASOLINE PRODUCTION BY 19.42% IN FEBRUARY

According to Pemex figures, gasoline production averaged 310,500 barrels per day (mbd), above the 260,000 barrels per day platform of February 2023.
However, the increase in production volume has not been enough to meet domestic demand and reduce imports. In other words, energy self-sufficiency in fuels has not yet been achieved.
To meet domestic demand, Pemex imported 376.3 mbd in the second month of the year, a volume that includes the oxygenate methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE).
Regarding diesel, Pemex produced 168,200 barrels per day, a 60% increase compared to the same month of the previous year. Meanwhile, diesel imports averaged 118,600 barrels, 31% lower than the February 2023 level.
Overall, the production of petroleum products – gasoline, diesel, fuel oil, liquefied gas, kerosene and others – closed February with 1,044,000 barrels per day, an increase of 16.6% compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, imports totaled 645,800 barrels per day, an 11% decrease compared to the same month last year. In the second month of the year, imports represented 61.8% of national production.
The document shows that 643,933 barrels per day were imported during the first two months of this year. Although this figure represents a 9.5% decrease, the volume remains significant and demonstrates that Mexico continues to be a net importer of fuels.
Gasoline imports averaged 371,585 barrels per day, representing 57.8% of domestic gasoline sales. This means that nearly 6 out of every 10 liters are imported.
